Many home-based business owners assume their home insurance can cover their business activities. Or they assume that the risks are not that great, and that the can do without the insurance. Unfortunately, using your home for operating a home-based business, may even invalidate your homeowners policy. The type of policy you need depends on what kind of home-based business you are operating. For example, if you’re a blogger like me, whose computer is the most invaluable tool, then you’ll need to have contents insurance to replace the equipment if anything happens to it. Or, if you’re business equipment also consists of a laptop you have to bring everywhere, you’ll also need to have a separate contents and insurance for it. You should also have general liability insurance, to cover any injury or accident to clients on your business premises and elsewhere.
